DESCRIPTION: EPW - H.L. Matile, Locle, pocket chronometer with pivoted detent escapement, 56mm, 18K gold original HC, signed gold cuvette bearing attributes, white metal spacing ring around mvt, white enamel SS impressed dial, gold and blued fleur-de-lis hands, KWKS, fully capped pivoted detent escapement, 21J, fausses-cĂ´tes pattern nickel damascene, s#6438 marked to cuvette. Gross weight of assembled watch 92.7 dwt (144.2 g). This movement has the interesting feature of a small circular aperture in its balance cock. Below the balance cock at this position is a small protruding piece on the outer coil of the hairspring as well as a nearby metal block on the underside of the balance cock. It appears that this block likely originally held an additional element that would have interacted with the protrusion on the hairspring to limit the extent of motion of the hairspring. Please see our photos for a view of the underside of the balance cock.
CONDITION: Mvt: Running, excellent-plus cosmetic mvt condition overall, few small fine scratches, some small patches of abrasion to lower plate; dial with two hls near 4; nearly mint hands; case shows light wear, dent at left perimeter of front, some dings to band, reduced engine turning detail with full loss to much of rear shoulder; tight bow, push shows light wear; good glass crystal.
ESTIMATE: $2600 - $3800
